Community Education Center (CEC)

The Community Education Center is a nonpro?t, community-based arts and education center whose mission is to strengthen the sense of shared community and culture among peoples of differing backgrounds and cultures through the arts. CEC’s The New Edge Artists Service Program provides support to emerging Philadelphia performing artists (dancer/choreographers, performance artists, and theatre artists), in the development and presentation of their work. The program has two tiers serving to support artists. The ?rst tier is The New Edge Mix showcase for artists at the beginning stages of their development and/or for whom have few opportunities to perform. The second tier, The New Edge Residency, is for artists who have had substantial performance experience yet are emerging, and for whom the residency opportunity could make a signi?cant impact on their career advancement. Criteria for selection in both programs are artistic merit and need. The New Edge Residency and New Edge Mix submissions are juried by separate panels comprised of regional professional artists, CEC board members, and community residents.

The CommunityEducationCenter offers rental opportunities for performing artists to rehearse, teach, and self-produce seven days a week. There are three spaces available. The Meeting House Theatre is 18 feet by 43 feet with a sprung maple ?oor and 72-100 seats. The Studio/East Community Room space is 33 feet by 52 feet with a hardwood ?oor and the Tap Room is 19 feet by 20 feet with a hardwood ?oor. Rates vary.

The CommunityEducationCenter offers ?scal sponsorship for performing artists as well as other opportunities.
