Actors’ Fund of America, The

The Actors’ Fund of America is a national nonprofit organization serving all entertainment professionals in film, television, radio, theatre, dance and music through comprehensive services and programs. Entertainment professionals who can benefit from The Actors’ Fund of America include designers, writers, sound technicians, musicians, dancers, administrators, directors, film editors, stagehands, as well as actors.  In addition to providing emergency grants for essentials such as food, rent, and medical care, The Actors’ Fund provides counseling, substance abuse and mental health services, senior and disabled care, nursing home and assisted living care, an AIDS Initiative, The Actors’ Work Program, the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative, the Artists’ Health Insurance Resource Center, and supportive housing on both coasts. Eligibility guidelines vary by program, however applicants do not have to be members of entertainment industry unions or guilds to receive assistance.

The Actors’ Fund’s AIDS Initiative supports the well-being of entertainment professionals who are living with HIV/AIDS. Their experienced Social Workers provide case management, advocacy, crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, financial assistance, financial management skills development, and referrals to community resources.

The Artists’ Health Insurance Resource Center is an online database of health insurance resources for artists and individuals in the entertainment industry as well as for the self-employed, low-income workers, the under-insured, the uninsured who require medical care, and many others. Center offers one-on-one counseling for needy individuals.
